Centerville Lake continues to grow in popularity as one of the most desirable lake communities in the northern suburbs of the Twin Cities.
Within the lake, certain shoreline areas have become especially sought after. One of those locations is Mound Trail.
With only about 28 lakefront home sites, Mound Trail represents one of the most limited stretches of shoreline on the lake. Because of that limited inventory, homes here rarely come to market.
In many years, only one property may sell along this stretch of shoreline.
A Unique Section of the Lake
Mound Trail runs along the north side of Centerville Lake near Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park Reserve. The area offers a combination of open lake views and natural surroundings that make it especially appealing to homeowners who want privacy while still enjoying the full recreational lake experience.
Homes along Mound Trail sit on a stretch of shoreline that provides easy access to the wider lake while also being close to parks, trails, and protected natural areas.
For many buyers, that combination creates a unique balance between lake living and natural surroundings.
How Mound Trail Developed
Many of the homes along Mound Trail were built in the early 2000s, when portions of the shoreline became available for development.
A local farm property was subdivided, creating a number of buildable lakefront lots. Around that time the road was slightly adjusted to accommodate the new homes and shoreline access.
That development created what is now one of the most desirable residential areas on the lake.
Some homes from that era remain today, while other properties have gradually transitioned into redevelopment opportunities as newer custom homes replace older structures.
Range of Homes Along the Shoreline
Because of the history of development along Mound Trail, the homes vary significantly.
Properties typically range from:
• $700,000 cabins or older homes
• newer lake homes built in the early 2000s
• high-end custom homes approaching $1.2–3 million
As lake values have increased across the northern suburbs, some older homes have also become tear-down opportunitiesfor buyers looking to build new.
This redevelopment trend continues to shape many lake communities across the Twin Cities.
Limited Inventory
One of the defining characteristics of Mound Trail is simply how few homes exist along this stretch of shoreline.
With only around 28 properties, inventory is extremely limited.
Many homeowners stay for long periods of time, which means listings here tend to attract significant buyer attention when they do appear.
For buyers specifically searching for Centerville Lake, Mound Trail often becomes one of the first areas they look at.
A Strong Community Environment
Centerville Lake itself has become a strong community-oriented lake environment.
Residents enjoy boating, swimming, fishing, and winter recreation throughout the year. The lake also connects with the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes trail system, providing access to miles of parks and outdoor recreation.
Many families are also drawn to the area because of the Centennial School District, which serves Centerville, Lino Lakes, and surrounding communities.
For homeowners along Mound Trail, this combination of lake lifestyle, schools, and outdoor recreation continues to make the area highly desirable.
A Personal Perspective
I’ve had the opportunity to help clients buy and sell homes along Mound Trail and throughout Centerville Lake.
Living on the lake myself, I’ve also spent a lot of time exploring the shoreline and getting to know the different pockets of the lake.
If you live along Mound Trail, you already know it’s a special place.
And if you're out on the water, you’re only a short boat ride away from where I live here on Centerville Lake.
Preparation creates leverage.
Relationships outlast transactions.
