A Local's Guide to Summer Dining on White Bear Lake

There's something about summer in White Bear Lake that makes the whole town feel a little more alive. The boats are out, the patios are full, and after a long Minnesota winter, sitting down to a great meal somewhere near the water feels like a small reward we've all earned.

After years of living, working, and showing homes around White Bear Lake, I've come to appreciate the restaurants that make this town what it is. Here are three I send people to all summer long — whether they're new to the area, in town to look at lake homes, or just looking for somewhere good to land on a Friday night.

Tally's Dockside

If you've spent any time around White Bear Lake, you already know Tally's. It's been a fixture on the lake for decades, and there's a reason it stays packed all summer. You can pull up by boat or by car, grab a seat on the patio, and watch the lake go by while you eat.

The food is honest American — burgers, sandwiches, fish, the kind of menu that doesn't try too hard but always delivers. What makes Tally's special isn't just the food though. It's the feeling. Sun on the water, kids running around, neighbors waving at each other across tables. That's what summer in White Bear Lake is supposed to feel like.

Best for: Casual lunches, family dinners, after-the-boat drinks.

Admiral D's Waterfront Tavern

Admiral D's is the spot when you want something a little more substantial. The steaks are excellent, the cocktails are well done, and the view of the lake doesn't hurt either. It strikes that balance between a special-occasion place and somewhere you can actually walk into on a Tuesday.

I've taken plenty of clients here after a long day of touring lake homes. There's something about ending the day with a good steak and watching the sunset over the water that has a way of helping people picture what life on the lake could actually look like.

Best for: Date nights, client dinners, anyone craving a really good steak.

MISU

Sushi might not be the first thing people think of when they think of small-town Minnesota, but White Bear Lake has a really solid spot if you know where to look. The fish is fresh, the rolls are creative without being over the top, and the atmosphere is laid-back enough that you can stop in after a beach day without feeling out of place.

If you've never tried it, summer's a great time to give it a shot. A lighter meal after a hot day on the lake just hits differently.

Best for: Lighter dinners, date nights, something a little different.

Why It Matters

These three places — and a handful of others around town — are part of what makes White Bear Lake feel like home. When people ask me what it's like to live here, I don't just talk about the lake or the schools or the property values. I talk about the small stuff. Where to grab a drink after work. Where to take the kids when nobody feels like cooking. Where to take out-of-town family when you want them to understand why you live where you live.

If you're thinking about moving to the area, or just want recommendations from someone who actually spends time here, I'd love to chat. Half my job is helping people find the right home — the other half is helping them feel like they belong once they're here.
